Incontinence Recipe of the Month: Poached Salmon with Snap Peas

It’s time for the March Recipe of the month. As you know by now, from reading our other recipes, modifying your diet can lessen the symptoms of your incontinence. Certain foods can aggravate your incontinence, such as those that are processed, or contain preservatives, and/or MSG.

Constipation equals bladder pressure, and unnecessary pressure on your bladder causes more frequent urination. The following recipes are designed to be incontinence friendly. You won’t need to think twice about what you’re eating, as each recipe contains foods that are high in fiber, rich in nutrients, and ideal for your incontinence. This month’s recipe is poached salmon with a side of snap peas!

Snap Peas

For this delicious side, you’ll need:

  • 3 cups of snap peas
  • Butter
  • Salt and pepper

Start by cleaning the snap peas thoroughly, and removing the end of each pod. This can be done with kitchen scissors, or with a paring knife. Next, steam the snap peas for 2 – 3 minutes. When the peas are finished steaming, drain them, and add butter, salt, and pepper to taste. While you may be inclined to add additional spices and flavors to your food, be mindful that spicy foods can irritate your incontinence and cause frequent urination. Poached Salmon

For this part of the recipe, you’ll need the following ingredients:

  • 4 Salmon Fillets
  • 1 Small Onion, Sliced
  • 1 cup Water
  • 1 cup Vegetable Broth
  • 1/2 tsp Salt
  • 1 Bay leaf
  • 4 Peppercorns
  • 4 Sprigs Parsley
  • Ground Black Pepper

Begin by combing all of the ingredients into a frying pan with the exception of the salmon. Heat the contents of the pan until they come to a simmer. Next, add the defrosted salmon fillets and allow all contents to return to a simmer. Cover the pan with a lid for about 4 – 6 minutes, or until the salmon appears nontransparent.

When the salmon is finished cooking, remove the pan from heat and let the salmon sit for about 3 minutes. At this point, the salmon is almost ready to be served!

Caper Sauce

This great garnish can be made with just a few ingredients. They are:

  • 1/3 cup of light mayonnaise
  • 1 tbsp of Capers

Combine these two for a nice flavoring to add to your salmon dish.
